The list of suspected security breaches at local election offices since the 2020 election keeps growing, with investigations underway in at least three states -- Colorado, Georgia and Michigan. The stakes appeared to rise this week when the existence of a federal probe came to light involving a prominent loyalist to former President Donald Trump who has been promoting voting machine conspiracy theories across the country.

There are still bodies on the battlefield, lying where they fell on farm fields or inside burned-out tanks as Ukrainian troops swept through a Russian-occupied border area in a major counteroffensive this month. A bus overturned on an expressway in southwestern China, leaving 27 people dead and injuring 20 others. The early Sunday morning accident was in Sandu county, which is southeast of the city of Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou province. A police statement said the bus had 47 people on board and the injured were being treated. No other information was immediately released.

A powerful typhoon approaching southern Japan is pounding the region with strong winds and heavy rain. Thousands of people are evacuating and the storm is causing blackouts and paralyzing ground and air transportation Sunday. Japan Meteorological Agency said Typhoon Nanmadol was near the southern island of Yakushima, packing maximum surface winds of 101 miles per hour. The storm is slowly headed to the country’s main southern island of Kyushu and could make landfall there later Sunday. Nanmadol is forecast to turn east and reach Tokyo on Tuesday. Local authorities so far reported no major damage or injuries.

No. 5 Clemson came alive with three third-quarter touchdowns on the way to its ninth straight victory, a 48-20 win over Louisiana Tech. Will Shipley ran for 104 yards and two touchdowns to help Clemson to its 36h home win in a row, a streak that dates back to November 2016. The Tigers led just 13-6 at halftime and turned things around helped by two interceptions thrown by La Tech's Parker McNeil and a fourth-down stop deep in Bulldogs territory. All three led to touchdowns as Clemson pulled away.

Bijan Robinson ran for 183 yards and three touchdowns, Jahdae Barron returned an interception 44 yards for a score in the third quarter and No. 21 Texas beat UTSA 41-20. Texas trailed 17-7 in the second quarter then rallied to tie it by halftime. Robinson’s 78-yard touchdown run gave Texas the lead, and Barron’s interception return put the Longhorns up by 11 to snuff the Roadrunners’ bid for an upset that would have been the biggest win in the history of a rising program that has only been playing football since 2011. Hudson Card got the start at quarterback for Texas (2-1) in place of the injured Quinn Ewers and finished with 161 yards passing and even scampered for a 32-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Michael Penix Jr. threw for 397 yards and four touchdowns and Washington emphatically stated its case as a contender in the Pac-12 with a 39-28 win over No. 11 Michigan State. Penix was spectacular for three quarters in a primetime national showcase that showed Kalen DeBoer’s rebuild is progressing faster than expected. Washington led 29-8 at halftime. Penix completed 24 of 40 passes. Payton Thorne threw for 323 yards and three TDs, and led a pair of quick fourth-quarter scoring drives for Michigan State that caused some nerves for the Huskies. But the rally was too late for the Spartans.
