Best NFL DFS Stacks, Week 2: Lineup Picks for DraftKings & FanDuel

Week 2 of the NFL DFS season has arrived and it is time to win some big money using stacks.

While fantasy football stacks are becoming more prevalent in redraft leagues, the ability to stack players has always been one of the main strategic plays in daily fantasy.

This weekly article will focus on what are the best stack plays in a given week for DFS.

While these plays can be applicable to FanDuel and other daily fantasy sites, this article will focus primarily on DraftKings pricing.

A fantasy football stack is when you take two or more players from the same team in order to double your points. This is a strategy that is especially useful in games with high over-unders.

While you are able to stack a quarterback with a running back and or a tight end, we’ll be focusing on the best stacks available between a quarterback and a wide receiver.

What is most important to pay attention to, with or without stacking, is a player’s cost and their ultimate output of points.

For example: QB Jalen Hurts had an average cost of $6,700 last season and had five weeks in which he scored 4x his weekly cost.

Ultimately, factoring in the elements of stacking players along with a strong return of investment on players’ costs will put you in the best position to cash in this season.

Without further ado, here are some of the best DFS stack options for Week 2 of the 2022 NFL season:

QB Matt Ryan ($5,500) & WR Michael Pittman ($6,700), Colts vs Jaguars

Two weeks into the NFL season and two weeks that I nominate Matt Ryan and Michael Pittman as a DFS stack worth investing in.

Last week, the Colts’ combination was one of nine stacks to score 50 or more points. Now the Colts will turn their attention to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jaguars had a Week 1 in which they allowed 52 points to opposing wide receivers, including two players with 18 points or more. This falls in line with last season when the Jaguars had 11 games with 30 or more points allowed to wide receivers.

If you played Pittman last week, it would be impossible to notice that his DraftKings salary went up by $1,200. Don’t let that deter you, though.

Even if Pittman had a $6,700 salary in Week 1, he still would have scored four times his cost. As long as the Colts pass catcher continues to see north of 10 targets, the DFS production will follow.

Matt Ryan started slow last week but still finished with 20.28 points and 11th among quarterbacks in Week 1 scoring.

While the Jaguars were one of five teams to not allow 30 points to an opposing quarterback last season, they started things this season by allowing 32.72 points to Carson Wentz.

If you are into this sort of thing, this is also a game in which the Colts have something to prove to the Jaguars.

It was the final week of last season when the Jaguars shocked the world, defeating the Colts and ended their playoff hopes. It couldn’t hurt to note that Pittman had scored 20.4 points in that game.

The disclaimer to this is that Pittman has missed practice on Thursday with a quad injury. If Pittman winds up not playing this week, I would pivot to Parris Campbell who has a price tag of just $3,700.

QB Derek Carr ($6,200) & WR Davante Adams ($8,600), Raiders vs Cardinals

Investing 29.5% of your DraftKings budget into two players seems like a lot but given the matchup, the price may still be right for Derek Carr and Davante Adams.

After combining for 49.9 points last week, Carr and Adams will welcome in a Cardinals defense that allowed 44 points to the Chiefs in Week 1.

The Raiders debut for Adams turned out to be profitable as he scored 33.1 points which was four times his price of $8,100. What is even more encouraging than that was his NFL-leading 17 targets.

Granted it was on a different team but Adams had eight games with twenty or more points scored last season. While Adams missed last year’s game against the Cardinals, in two previous meetings against them, the Raiders receiver had 11 receptions for 135 yards and a touchdown.

It would not surprise me if Adams has a similar stat line this Sunday to those previous games against the Cardinals combined.

In regards to Carr, while throwing for 295 yards, he did have three interceptions which drove his score down to 16.8 points.

That would mark his first regular season game with interceptions since Week of 2018. With that in mind, the turnovers should not be a recurring theme.

Week 1 was a game to forget for the Cardinals who allowed five touchdowns. They also committed five penalties in coverage and had four missed tackles on pass plays. I fully expect Carr to take full advantage of the Cardinals secondary with Adams being front and center with targets.

QB Carson Wentz ($5,800) & WR Curtis Samuel ($4,600), Commanders vs. Lions

Week 1 is always full of surprises but in terms of fantasy football and DFS there may have been no bigger surprise than Carson Wentz scoring six times his DraftKings price with 32.72 points.

Even if Wentz does not have that strong of a game in Week 2, his cost going up just $300 makes him well worth the investment as the Commanders take on the Lions.

While three Commanders wide receivers scored 10+ points, the focus here will be on Curtis Samuel. While there is plenty of number crunching that we can do, the simple fact is that you would be hard pressed to find a pass catcher with a price tag of $4,600 and double-digit targets the week prior.

Mind you, this is the version of Curtis Samuel that Washinton thought they were bringing in during the 2021 offseason. With injuries in the rearview, Samuel could continue to deliver on low expectations and cost.

The Lions defense allowed 53.22 points to Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown last week, the fourth-highest points between a quarterback and wide receiver stack.

This is a continuation from last season when the Lions had five games of allowing sixty or more points to quarterbacks and wide receivers combined.

Circling back to Wentz and his price-point, the Commanders quarterback seems reminiscent of last year’s performance from Sam Darnold. The comparison being a fast start while being priced below $6,000 on a per week basis.

Much like Darnold, things could eventually cave in on Wentz but for now, investing in this stack feels like riding the hot hand at a blackjack table. I’m here for it.

QB Trey Lance ($5,700) & WR Deebo Samuel ($7,800), 49ers vs Seahawks

It would be too easy to write this column and nominate every player that had a strong Week 1. Some players simply bounce back after a bad week and my prediction is that Trey Lance and Deebo Samuel will be those players in Week 2.

In spite of their win last week, the Seahawks defense had issues. The defense had nine missed tackles on pass plays and allowed 34.3 points to opposing wide receivers.

They were also one of 11 teams to allow over 100 rushing yards to opposing running backs.

Those numbers sound intriguing when selecting a player like Deebo Samuel. In a frustrating offensive performance on a drenched Soldier Field, Samuel was able to manage 13.6 points.

While Samuel had eight carries in the season opener, the injury to Elijah Mitchell will open up even more opportunities for the dynamic receiver in the running game.

Last season, Samuel had just three games with less than 14 points and scored 38.70 points against this Seahawks defense. Look for a middle ground between those point totals and for Samuel to score triple his price tag.

In regards to Lance, there is no sugarcoating that Lance completing 13-of-28 passes for 164 yards is not a good look.

That aside and even with a 50% chance of rain for Week 2, this is a 49ers offense under Kyle Shanahan’s leadership that has scored 20 or more points in their last seven games against the Seahawks.

The final note to report is that the absence of Jamal Adams with his quad injury could make life easier for Lance and company. Feel free to bet on red and gold this Sunday.

QB Matthew Stafford ($6,300) & WR Allen Robinson ($5,500), Rams vs Falcons

While the Rams’ home opener might seem like a lifetime ago for some, the bitter loss is likely fresh in the minds of Matthew Stafford and Allen Robinson.

The 240 passing yards from Stafford in Week 1 was his second-lowest yardage total as a member of the Rams. It is also just the second time as a Ram that he threw three interceptions in a game.

Redemption in Week 2 comes in the form of a Falcons defense that allowed 269 passing yards last week. Along with the Rams, the Falcons were one of just four teams to allow over 75 fantasy points to the quarterback and wide receiver positions combined.

What is most important to note for Stafford is despite his elbow issues, he is not listed on the latest Rams injury report.

Furthering the talk of redemption, there is no player on the Rams offense who is in need of it more than Allen Robinson. In spite of Robinson being on the field for 98% of the team’s passing plays, the former Bears receiver was only targeted twice.

The most encouraging thing for Robinson leading up this week was an acknowledgment from both his coach and quarterback that his lack of involvement in Week 1 was a mistake.

While Stafford said he could have gotten Robinson the ball more, Sean McVay blamed the lack of targets on the offense not being in a rhythm.

Look for the Rams to right some wrongs offensively and for Robinson to cash in on a low $5,500 price tag.
