While the discussions and outrage surrounding 17-year-old Ankita’s brutal killing by Islamist molester Shahrukh Hossain has not even subsided, another heart-rendering story of grooming jihad has surfaced from Uttarakhand’s Nainital.

After a 24-days-long investigation, the Nainital police have solved the mystery of Anjali Arya’s disappearance. The police have also arrested her “lover” Mohammad Yameen Ahmed. The accused had killed Anjali by slitting her throat because she was asking him to marry her after their courtship.

18-year-old Anjali was a resident of Khadakpur village in Motahaldu, which falls under the jurisdiction of Lalkuan police station in Nainital. On Wednesday, August 3, Anjali left the house for her college and didn’t return. Though her family searched for her extensively, they couldn’t trace her. Soon, the family discovered that Anjali had also taken some jewellery with her. They immediately filed a missing person’s report at the local police station.

The police started scanning the call detail record of Anjali’s mobile number and noticed that Anjali had frequently contacted one number. The police soon discovered that the number Anjali had been calling belonged to Yameen Ahmed, hailing from Bara village.

Ahmed, who worked as a pick-up driver, was detained by the police. During the interrogation, he broke down and confessed that he was in a relationship with Anjali. He also admitted he had killed her by slitting her throat. The police also recovered Anjali’s decomposed body from the dense forest located a little distance from the forest department post on Shaktifarm Road. It has been 24 days since Anjali’s murder; the body had decomposed to a great extent. Insects had also eaten it; only a skeleton was left in it. Police have also seized the knife used to kill Anjali and her purse.

During interrogation, Ahmed told the police that he and Anjali had met on social media. They used to frequently chat online, which led to the closeness between them. Some reports also suggest that Ahmed had initiated the relationship by giving missed calls to Anjali’s number and the girl eventually fell into his trap.

Their intimacy increased as they talked on the phone for prolonged hours and then started meeting in person. But Anjali wanted to take this “love affair” towards marriage and asked Ahmed to marry her. Though initially, Ahmed avoided this topic, he later hatched the conspiracy to get rid of her by killing her.

Friendship with strangers over social media has become a common phenomenon, and Islamists are using it as a tool to trap young Hindu girls. Unfortunately, Hindu parents have primarily failed at awakening their children to the dangers of Islamists lurking around them all the time. They seldom discuss the multiple cases of love jihad had has claimed the lives of numerous Hindu girls in the country.

To appear modern and secular, Hindu parents avoid warning their daughters of an approaching Islamist predator in the garb of a friend or lover. This is what is leading to the frequent cases of brutal killings of young Hindu girls.
